I haven't updated in forever, and I'm sure much more has gone on since I last posted...I know I have more pics to put up or at least post about (like the PA pictures).
Last two Friday's ago I was able to go out to Mt. Hood Ski Bowl with work, freakin' great! 18 holes of the most evil disc golf I've ever seen! Missed out on the bungee jumping and go karts, but I did get to have some beers, eat some food and play on an amazing (if unkempt and thougoughly hard) courses I've been to yet! Even though I lost 4 discs (3 of mine and 1 of the 2 I found) and the brush was up over my head :) Take a look, lots of work people in there (a great shot of Tweet driving with Mt. Hood in the background)
Went to Astoria Friday night and yesterday...saw a great parade, which Kate and her dad were riding in....in a Jag! Saw "Shanghaied in Astoria," one of the craziest stage shows I've ever seen! They change actors every year, so I'm tempted to go back next year. Kate went last year and won one of the raffles for a bunch of Scandinavian gifty stuff Finally got to meet Kate's Uncle Doug and his family as well. I added comments to almost every picture, take a look (there's a great one of Bob's dog Show-nee)
Off to buy new discs :DFeelin': chipper Listenin': Lawnmower outside

(typed this last night waiting for an airplane)
Sitting in the Philadelpha Airport...stupid place wants to charge me $8 to get online...what kind of crap is that!?!?
So, why I'm in PA. Last month my Grandfather passed away, since he didn't want any services we just waited until the family could get together to spread his ashes. It's been almost two months, so the services weren't as difficult to get through as if it had been just after. Very nice and very short (under 30 minutes). My mom spoke, as did his cousin and some of his old union buddies. I did take some pictures of his family plot, which is right next to my great-grandparents from the other side of the family...weird. Don't know if that was planned in some manner or not. lindsaycb wrote a letter to him, which we did place on the site for her (and no Lin, we didn't read it :)) I really miss him, his smile, his weather-centric phone calls, the constant picture taking (must be where I get it from :)) and just knowing that he was there for all of us in whatever we needed. Not a fun trip, but it could have been much worse, like when my Grandmother passed away last summer. Both of them in a year. Now I have no grandparents left, but plenty of support from the rest of the family.
Other stuff happened too. My second (third?) cousin Kyle had his 11th birthday party on Sunday, which my mom and I attended (Dad and Caitlin few out before it started) so I got to see my Great Aunt's side of the family. Bunch of little kids playing in a really nice park (oddly, right next to the hospital that my grandmother died in last summer) with the adults munching burgers and cake. My little cousin Alexis is absolutely adorable!
Next time I come out it will have to be under better circumstances...my cousin Scott is engaged, so maybe I'll get to go out for a wedding instead of a funeral :)
What else what else...not really much going on with me lately. Kate and I have been working on the new apartment, got the new kitty kat, driving around the Portland area and finding all sorts of new stuff to go see and restaurants to try. Been hanging out with our friends Gail and Cory quite a bit, and hoping that Josh and Tara will start their planned monthly visit to Portland so we don't have to come out to The Dalles just to see them (Josh has visited 3 times, Tara once...lame! I hope you read this Tara, you need to make it out here more!)
Got a backpack and a laptop from work! Finally have a system running linux that I can play on without screwing up either a) my home computer or b) someone elses computer. Maybe I'll get around to some kernel hacking, I'd really like to mess around with the memory controllers :)
That's about all for now, my flight leaves in 30 minutes and I'm kinda munchy...can't wait to get back and see Kate, Stormy and Quarter :)

Haven't updated since before Memorial Day, and yes, we did decide to go to SLC and see Caitlin...took a flippin ton of pictures too! (ie, almost a dvd's worth) I'll let them tell the tale :D
( Cut for your convenience )
Not much else going on, I do have some pictures from last weekend to sort and post still but this week at work has been crazy! The van pool decided to try 4/10s and OMG it freakin' drained me! Not doing that again anytime soon (without a damn good reason anyway). Lots going on this weekend, mostly errands and catching up with stuff I couldn't do during the week (like this post ;))
So, off to not be lazy :DFeelin': good Listenin': Grand Floral Parade on TV

It's been a few weeks and some interesting stuff has happened.
Finally finished moving out of the old apartment. Did a walk through on Saturday morning and it was "one of the cleanest apartments" they'd ever seen. Admittedly, they've only had the place for 3 months (with the aforementioned decline in service that they brought) and that wasn't the best (or worst) complex I've been in, it really didn't surprise me when she said that. So glad to be out of that place!
We got a new kitty kitty! His name is Quarter (came with the name) and he's 4 with no front claws. One of the guys at work had to get rid of him (new baby/jealous kitty) and I snapped him right up! Super cute, but will not sit still for a picture! (Let alone a half decent picture with my shitty camera..more below). Been getting along better and better with Stormy, actually slept next to eachother on the futon! Quarter really likes to sleep on pillows and last night slept above Kate's head all night (while Stormy was at our feet!).
So, I ordered a new camera last night! Woo! A Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX07 (review) in red. First heard about it on Boingboing a few weeks ago, and my cam has been steadily declining in quality since Christmas (no zoom-out, poor battery even though I bought a new one, slow, focus issues, I can go on!). Did a little research, saw some pics on flickr, poof! Hopefully it'll be here soon...because...
Kate and I are going to try to get over to SLC this weekend to see my sis' new place. She's having a housewarming party on Saturday and it's only 10ish hours from here, plus, I really haven't seen eastern Oregon or Idaho in the daylight, so that'll be cool. Not enough time to get a trip together for Illinois, but that'll happen sometime. My summer is pretty packed with people coming (or thinking of coming) out here! Jen, Nate, Maja (n8's mom), my bro and sis...plus going out to PA in late June. Craziness! The only thing holding us back from going is Kate getting Monday off work (I already have it off)
Oh! We stumbled upon Fat Albert's Breakfast Cafe on Saturday. Holy crap! We're definitely going back! One of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had, the only one better was in L'ville coupled with a bowl of mac and cheese. Certainly some of the better coffee I've had in Portland (something to be said for that!) and rivals Bob's Red Mill as the best breakfast within 15 minutes of us. (also, rekindling our "new restaurant a week" thing we tried to start a few months back)
Later all!Feelin': blah

So, as usual, it's been a while since my last update...hope everyone in IL bore the snow well and is all dug out :)
Lets see, things that have happened: Drove to Boulder and back for Thanksgiving, saw bro and sis, ate a ton of food, utilized the north face discount, "climbed" Flagstaff, and drove back home...put damn close to 3k on the rental car (07 Camry, with MP3 player!) Got stuck in traffic in the mountains for 2 hours, glad we had Futurama on the lappy :) I have some pictures floating around...if you're lucky I'll post them :)
Last week 84 was closed b/c of snow, and still having the bitch'n camaro, there was no way that I was going to trek the 70+ miles up the gorge, I really need to look for another ride...soon...
Oh! I saw the remnants of my first landslide today! Coupled with the 4" tsunami on the coast a few weeks go, I can almost cross a good chunk of geologic happenings from my list (volcano and a real tsunami are still on it, plus whatever else I decide, ad hoc of course)
I've taken on the massive project of archiving all my music, all I need now is storage...lots of it. This may call for building a file server of some sorts with at least a terrabyte of storage....if not more. Otherwise, these are adorable, but not really practical...well, depends on how much space *all* of this is going to take...I did make a decent start, about 90 cds so far, only a few...hundred...to go :)
That's about it for now, not really much going on except X-mas preparations (parents are coming out for a week including x-mas proper, yay!) including but not limited to reorganization of the apartment, fun!
Later all! Feelin': mellow Listenin': Lisa it's your birthday, happy birthday Lisa! (ie The Simpsons)

| » Long overdue update |
Well, this is long overdue for those who like to know what's up with me. Aside from my 12 hours of "work" each day (8+lunch+3 hour drive) there hasn't been much in the general sense going on....I am in the market for a new car, which I do believe I mentioned before.
Rain? What rain? Pretty much non stop since last tuesday until yesterday, when it finally stopped for a whole, oh, 18 hours without rain. Extra bonus for seeing rainbows yesterday at work and a double today on the morning drive! Not only that but the rainbow this morning stopped in the middle of the river, like 1500 feet from me! Plus, Multnomah Falls looks to be almost double in size at the top (more depth than breadth it would seem) which makes it even more visible from 84! Sweet!
Nate came into town this past weekend. Took him out to Tillamook (rich creamery butter) and Lincoln City ("the ocean is very oceanic"), stopped for a bit at the casino to spend a little money (and win far less) and drink a little drink. Much MK:DD and "hooker killing" fun was had, Nate took the last game...thus he won. Conversely, Nate can now be considered "fat" because he has broken furniture...the good leg of my futon...so not only do the past trusisms of Nate hold (being fat, ugly and being dressed funnily by his mother), but one is actually true! Hahahaha! Just sucks that the futon is busted now...need two stacks of books at the ready instead of one. Oh, and the earthquake! Overall, a fun weekend!
Probably going to end up going to Boulder for Thanksgiving, and probably X-mas as well. Fun...lots of driving, or plane...I'll have to check on that for both...who knows? Not I :D
Well, I've got some stuff to do before I go to sleep (like sort pictures!)
Edit: Duh! I completely forgot to mention that we took Nate to Blue Moose Cafe and had a wonderful veggie meal! Then to Oba for margaritas...mmm...

Its been a while since I've updated...I guess not that long, last monday...seems like forever though! So, a few more interviews have been had and still nothing really promising (definitely hopeful for something though :)). The "well known company" interview went alright, I could have known my raid levels a bit better, but I think I did alright having never used them in real life before...I'm kind of like that with a lot of things computerish though, I know about them but I've never used them...or I've used them but not enough to be considered an "expert" (certainly knowing more than coming in cold for damn sure). But I digress...
This weekend was certainly fun though! Went discing at Lunchtime DCG on saturday and actually found a quicker way to get there! Yay! It's only about 15 minutes away now, but that's with little to no traffic...in all reality Rockwood Central is closer and usually more crowded. Apparently there is a new course in Oregon City which would be ever so close, but I can't seem to find anything online about it...I'm sure I will sometime soon though :) Anywho, here are some pics from us playing.
Yesterday we took the totally gorgeous day to picnic up at Mt. St. Helens. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, but jenndogg04, this is that it's supposed to look like! Pretty pictures this way!
Now, it's back to making my linux box work, setting up Kate's rig, and all the other things that occupy my day :)

Not much happened this weekend....took a short drive out to Molalla on Saturday and had lunch at Jasper's Cafe...which had quite good food for a little short order place. Kate had some massive sweet potato pancakes, smelled lovely! Scenery down there was quite weird, almost getting into the desert area (such as the east side of mt hood) but still a good number of timber areas...different than the other places we've been for sure!
Yesterday was spent mainly cooking and eating. Made biscuits and gravy for breakfast, potato bake/casserole for lunch and dinner....oh, so good! You can't beat Kate's variation on the potato casserole...yum! We've actually been tinkering with HiveLive to store our recipes (ripped off or otherwise) and it's a nice little app for storing data...I just wish there were other ways to visually represent what's being stored...maybe there is and I just haven't found it yet :)
I do have a 2nd interview with that well known company later this week...so I get to study up on some of the topics we talked about during the first interview (if I were them, I'd quiz me on the things I missed/was unclear of, wouldn't you?).
It's actually raining today! Craziness abounds! So I get to stay home, do laundry, play morrowind and play with the computers I have sitting in the living room :) Maybe I'll forego the video games and go back to the php app I was tinkering with a few weeks ago, the bulk of it is done...done to the point that I'm kinda happy with it, but not done to the point where the rest of the world needs to see what it is (ie, it's ugly as hell)
Okay, well, I do believe I've rambled enough...that and my typing is going downhill fast for some reason! Time to go whoop artchick94's ass at trivia ;)

| » wow, long trip |
|
I've been back in Milwaukie for a few hours now and finally got around to sorting my pictures and making some pages. Here's a quick recap of what I did since last week.
Friday: Arrive in Boulder Saturday: Drove up to Mt. Evans with my sister, then into Denver for dinner and a drink. Sunday: Drove to Nederland to see Sascha. Out to dinner with brother and sister Monday: Started driving out to Milwaukie Tuesday: Finally get to Milwaukie and rest for most of the day, drove up to PDX to a few climbing shops with Than. Wednesday: Drive to Juniper Hills DGC in Madras, then on to Smith Rock and hike around/boulder Thurdsay: Hike around Smith Rock some more and head to eat in Bend before driving back to PDX.
Wow, long long long two weeks in a nutshell...that's after the almost week long stint in PA for Grammy's hospital stay and thereafter.
Tomorrow, Brad and Doungchay are coming out for 4 days. Discing, out to the beach, and who knows what else (downtown stuff for sure). Should be great fun! I can't wait!
Anywho, here are some pictures from the past few weeks: Trip to Pennsylvania Boulder to Portland Smith Rock ( A few choice ones )

| » it's been a long week |
Well, it's been one hell of a long week.
First off, my grandmother passed away on wednesday night at 11pm after being off the vent and on morphine for 11 hours (more time than anyone expected!) and is now in peace. Thank you to everyone for their well wishes and the like, they are always appreciated.
Spend most of yesterday cleaning out her garden and planting new flowers and looks 1000% better (which i can say without hyperbole ;)) This morning my brother, sister and I flew out of PA to Denver and are now in Boulder. Bro and I are going to be driving out to Portland on Monday and camping at Smith Rock on Wednesday and Thursday, then Kate is going to possibly come out to camp with me on Friday and maybe Saturday...we'll see how that goes :)
Right now, cleaning email and resting after one long week.
I've got pictures to post when I get home...or sometime in the near future. Off to do...nothing :D
