Offsite and Astoria Aug. 12th, 2007 @ 02:38 pm
I haven't updated in forever, and I'm sure much more has gone on since I last posted...I know I have more pics to put up or at least post about (like the PA pictures).

Last two Friday's ago I was able to go out to Mt. Hood Ski Bowl with work, freakin' great!  18 holes of the most evil disc golf I've ever seen!  Missed out on the bungee jumping and go karts, but I did get to have some beers, eat some food and play on an amazing (if unkempt and thougoughly hard) courses I've been to yet!  Even though I lost 4 discs (3 of mine and 1 of the 2 I found) and the brush was up over my head :)  Take a look, lots of work people in there (a great shot of Tweet driving with Mt. Hood in the background)

Went to Astoria Friday night and yesterday...saw a great parade, which Kate and her dad were riding in....in a Jag!  Saw "Shanghaied in Astoria," one of the craziest stage shows I've ever seen!  They change actors every year, so I'm tempted to go back next year.  Kate went last year and won one of the raffles for a bunch of Scandinavian gifty stuff  Finally got to meet Kate's Uncle Doug and his family as well.  I added comments to almost every picture, take a look (there's a great one of Bob's dog Show-nee)

Belated Memorial Day post Jun. 9th, 2007 @ 10:05 am
Haven't updated since before Memorial Day, and yes, we did decide to go to SLC and see Caitlin...took a flippin ton of pictures too!  (ie, almost a dvd's worth)  I'll let them tell the tale :D

Cut for your convenience )

Not much else going on, I do have some pictures from last weekend to sort and post still but this week at work has been crazy!  The van pool decided to try 4/10s and OMG it freakin' drained me!  Not doing that again anytime soon (without a damn good reason anyway).  Lots going on this weekend, mostly errands and catching up with stuff I couldn't do during the week (like this post ;))

So, off to not be lazy :D

Finally moved (feel like crap today) and other stuff May. 21st, 2007 @ 10:14 am
It's been a few weeks and some interesting stuff has happened.

Finally finished moving out of the old apartment.  Did a walk through on Saturday morning and it was "one of the cleanest apartments" they'd ever seen.  Admittedly, they've only had the place for 3 months (with the aforementioned decline in service that they brought) and that wasn't the best (or worst) complex I've been in, it really didn't surprise me when she said that.  So glad to be out of that place!

We got a new kitty kitty!  His name is Quarter (came with the name) and he's 4 with no front claws.  One of the guys at work had to get rid of him (new baby/jealous kitty) and I snapped him right up!  Super cute, but will not sit still for a picture! (Let alone a half decent picture with my shitty camera..more below).  Been getting along better and better with Stormy, actually slept next to eachother on the futon!  Quarter really likes to sleep on pillows and last night slept above Kate's head all night (while Stormy was at our feet!).

So, I ordered a new camera last night!  Woo!  A Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX07 (review) in red.  First heard about it on Boingboing a few weeks ago, and my cam has been steadily declining in quality since Christmas (no zoom-out, poor battery even though I bought a new one, slow, focus issues, I can go on!).  Did a little research, saw some pics on flickr, poof!  Hopefully it'll be here soon...because...

Kate and I are going to try to get over to SLC this weekend to see my sis' new place.  She's having a housewarming party on Saturday and it's only 10ish hours from here, plus, I really haven't seen eastern Oregon or Idaho in the daylight, so that'll be cool.  Not enough time to get a trip together for Illinois, but that'll happen sometime.  My summer is pretty packed with people coming (or thinking of coming) out here!  Jen, Nate, Maja (n8's mom), my bro and sis...plus going out to PA in late June.  Craziness!  The only thing holding us back from going is Kate getting Monday off work (I already have it off)

Oh!  We stumbled upon Fat Albert's Breakfast Cafe on Saturday.  Holy crap!  We're definitely going back!  One of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had, the only one better was in L'ville coupled with a bowl of mac and cheese.  Certainly some of the better coffee I've had in Portland (something to be said for that!) and rivals Bob's Red Mill as the best breakfast within 15 minutes of us.  (also, rekindling our "new restaurant a week" thing we tried to start a few months back)

Later all!

Glass n stuff Feb. 19th, 2007 @ 05:17 pm
Well, I really don't have any new pictures of the area...this week looks to be pretty nasty for weather, but I'll see what I can do on the way to work :D

Got a freakin' ton done around the apartment today! Plus! Pictures! With captions! Woo!

Goodbye bitchin' Camaro....hello new car! Feb. 4th, 2007 @ 08:47 pm
Well, we went out for a good chunk of the day yesterday to look at cars.  Drove quite a few Subaru's and actually ended up buying one!

So...without further ado, here it is!  We also drove up to Mt. Hood today...quick trip, but the car was great the whole time :D  Oh, yeah, it's a '97 w/ 91k on it.  Should work until I can get a new hybrid (in a year or two or three)

From hood n subaru
Aside from looking black (and being a sort of black-cherry color), it needed a new cd player, so I went out and picked up the cheapest one that had a line-in on the front...poof!  Great car (so far!) :D

Off to finish laundry and pack for work!

So if anyone listened to my phone post this morning, I was on my way to my first day at Google.  All went well and I really can't talk about anything at all (multiple NDA's and such)....I really need to read their blogging guidelines before I even think about it though :)

The commute, while long, is beautiful and traffic outside of PDX is all but absent.

So, yeah, I'm tired and going to play video games now, but before I do.....
PICTURES!!!!! (good ones from the past few weeks :))
» Oooooooo Volcanoooooooo

Its been a while since I've updated...I guess not that long, last monday...seems like forever though!  So, a few more interviews have been had and still nothing really promising (definitely hopeful for something though :)).  The "well known company" interview went alright, I could have known my raid levels a bit better, but I think I did alright having never used them in real life before...I'm kind of like that with a lot of things computerish though, I know about them but I've never used them...or I've used them but not enough to be considered an "expert" (certainly knowing more than coming in cold for damn sure).  But I digress...

This weekend was certainly fun though!  Went discing at Lunchtime DCG on saturday and actually found a quicker way to get there!  Yay!  It's only about 15 minutes away now, but that's with little to no traffic...in all reality Rockwood Central is closer and usually more crowded.  Apparently there is a new course in Oregon City which would be ever so close, but I can't seem to find anything online about it...I'm sure I will sometime soon though :)  Anywho, here are some pics from us playing.

Yesterday we took the totally gorgeous day to picnic up at Mt. St. Helens.  I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, but [info]jenndogg04, this is that it's supposed to look like!  Pretty pictures this way!

Now, it's back to making my linux box work, setting up Kate's rig, and all the other things that occupy my day :)

» wow, long trip

I've been back in Milwaukie for a few hours now and finally got around to sorting my pictures and making some pages.  Here's a quick recap of what I did since last week.

Friday: Arrive in Boulder
Saturday:  Drove up to Mt. Evans with my sister, then into Denver for dinner and a drink.
Sunday: Drove to Nederland to see Sascha.  Out to dinner with brother and sister
Monday: Started driving out to Milwaukie
Tuesday: Finally get to Milwaukie and rest for most of the day, drove up to PDX to a few climbing shops with Than.
Wednesday:  Drive to Juniper Hills DGC in Madras, then on to Smith Rock and hike around/boulder
Thurdsay:  Hike around Smith Rock some more and head to eat in Bend before driving back to PDX.

Wow, long long long two weeks in a nutshell...that's after the almost week long stint in PA for Grammy's hospital stay and thereafter.

Tomorrow, Brad and Doungchay are coming out for 4 days.  Discing, out to the beach, and who knows what else (downtown stuff for sure).  Should be great fun!  I can't wait!

Anywho, here are some pictures from the past few weeks:

» Japanese Garden...a few days late
So I was accused of not updating enough....well, there hasn't been all that much going on during the week.  But this weekend we did some stuff :)

Saturday we trucked over to Astoria to pick up Beethoven b/c Kate's parents had a free night at a new high-end hotel in Seattle for the night.  Wandered around downtown looking at all the neat little shops before a really good dinner and then to the Rogue Public House for some really good beer!  I had 5 (1 pint, 4 tasters split with Kate).  Their hefe is really good, Kate got into the hazelnut ale and quite enjoyed the chipotle beer as well (it was too smoky for me)...what bugged me was that there were multiple typos on the beer menu!  Orange was misspelled twice! (Orenge!  Blasphemy!).  The trip back was uninteresting until we hit Beaverton where we sat in traffic, at midnight, for an hour!  Ugh...wasn't planning on passing out when we got back, but we both did anyway :)

So Sunday we had tickets to the Portland Beavers baseball game, which Kate got from someone at work for her b-day.  We dropped the puppy off at Kate's aunt's place and headed to PGE Park.  Followed the signs off the interstate and *poof* there were no more...so we look at the tickets, uh...we're already an hour late (oops, it was 2:05 not 2:50). Swing around the area of the exit for a while and still don't see it.  Oh well, we start driving up toward Washington Park and the Japanese Garden.  Wow, very pretty! I took quite a few pictures for everyone to see.  Afterwards, we had some marionberry margaritas at Oba and headed back home for cartoons.

That's about it.  Still looking for employment in my field(s), not much time left before I'll have to take a crap job just to pay rent and all.  But I'm seeing more positions which I'm quite qualified for now...including a few at Google (wouldn't that be cool?) and one only 3 blocks away!  Let's hope for a call one of these days :)

Oh, and for all of those who have ever ridden in my car...I now have zero working windows :)
» weekend et al
First and foremost, happy birthday [info]scoperesolution :)

Now, there're a few things that happened...namely food, pillows and discing!

Food:  Kate and I made some vegan jambalaya with faux shrimp purchased at Food Fight...um...I would reccommend against the shrimp...I really liked the taste, but the texture was that of a sponge..and not good sponge like tofu, but bad sponge like eating Nerf.  Kate didn't care for the taste (too fishy even for fake fish...possibly kelp extract?) but didn't mind the texture so much....not that she'd eat it again though :)

Pillow fight:  Went downtown on Friday night for the pillow fight, there were a few hundred people there, mainly older teens.  Looked like eveyone was having quite a bit of fun...and it looked like the cops were tipped off to it b/c they were everywhere on horses, bikes, cars, foot...but as far as I could tell no one was causing a disturbance and apparently the organizers cleaned up all the mess when it was over.

Discing:  Decided yesterday morning that we were going to go to Pier Park to play a round before meeting Kate's parents for dinner.  Finally found the place after getting a little lost only to discover a PDGA tournament was taking place and we'd have to wait until at least 5p to play...duh!  Nice to see that it's so big out here, but we wanted to play there...oh well, next weekend I suppose.  So, we ended up heading out to the gorge and playing Rooster Rock West...ended up losing my glow in the dark Moosejaw disc in the high grass on #6...duh...2nd one of them I've lost.  Going to head out today/tomorrow to pick up another Disccraft Stratus...won't be the same without the MJ logo :(

So Kate's bday is tomorrow and we went to dinner last night with her parents and gma at Beaches.  Not very veg friendly, but the pizza I had was wonderful (and ever so filling) and the drinks...mmm...chambord margaritas.  The seafood looked especially fresh, although Kate was the only one who ordered any...everyone else had chicken (sans me, obviously)...which is odd since it is a seafood joint...oh well :D  Because it was Kate's bday, she got a crown, a lei, personalized menu, a candle and a coffee cup full of salt water taffy!  Oh yeah!  Free stuff is always good :)  Here're a few pics

And yet another reason to hate MySpace ;)
